Art and Interior Design combine two creative worlds that merge beautifully. As posed by  Evie Delaney, for some designers, starting with the art is fundamental to create a cohesive interior and a dynamic color scheme (House&Garden, 2024).

Rather than dictating a scheme, art ignites it, allowing interiors to unfold in ways they wouldn’t without that initial spark of inspiration. It sets the tone for a room’s atmosphere, inspires unexpected color palettes, and invites emotion into design decisions.

AM Living & its connection with art

AM Living has always established a strong relationship with art.  From incorporating artistic pieces that enhance the ambiances to partnering with artists who bring new visions to life, AM Living sees every space as a canvas. In recent years, the collaboration with artist Carlos dos Santos has opened new creative pathways.  His artistic insight has led not only to new pieces but also to new ways of presenting and introducing their collections, incorporating art, storytelling and elevating timeless design.

Reimagining Royalty

For the second year in a row, AM Living embraced the challenge of Sleep-In to create a distinctive ambiance at Palacete Silva Monteiro. This year, AM Living reimagined royalty to create a unique space within the Noble Room of the palace.

Reimagining Royalty started with the creation of unique paper sculptures that resemble queens and culminated with the creation of a wooden sculpture, The Queen, who beautifully merges with the royal feel of the furniture designed exclusively for this space.

With incredible attention to detail, in a blend of color, textures and artistry, AM Living created an ambiance that reconciles the best of French classic design and timeless contemporary lines.

The question is then, what does it take to attain an ambiance that reflects true royal elegance?

1.    Let yourself be inspired by art

Art can serve as a powerful starting point for any design. Whether it's a sculpture, a painting, or an architectural detail, allow it to guide the mood, palette, and energy of the space. Art brings emotion, narrative, and depth, adding personality and meaning to the environment.

2.    Rely on classical beauty  

Timeless design never fades. Drawing inspiration from classical styles, like the refined symmetry of Louis XVI or the unique elegance of Directoire, lays a strong foundation for a sophisticated interior. 3.    Experiment with color and texture

Royalty never shies away from richness. Don’t be afraid to experiment,  that’s how a space goes from beautiful to breathtaking. The key lies in boldness balanced with restraint: try pairing bold hues with softer tones, and layer different materials, fabrics, metals, and distinct wood types, to create depth and texture.
